A wealthy, over-evangelical church, a reverend with a career any movie star would envy, four friends out to make a quick buck at the church’s expense, and a “janitor” with the gift of miracles. All converge in this fast-paced, episodic journey of power, greed and human will. We meet the four friends seeking refuge in the sanctuary during a wedding reception where they reveal plans to buy the property the church is rumored to want for a big expansion site. The friends bought the property a year ago and it is almost time to cash in on the deal when a mysterious janitor appears claiming to be sent for “punishment”. In the spirit of the wedding, he lays a curse on the group. The friends must now decide to give up the deal or succumb to the consequences. Follow each twist and turn as this contemporary parable of Job unfolds. Join us for the Midwest premiere of this original script workshopped through the MFA Playwriting program at Arizona State University.
