THE STORY: The story takes place in a South American country (Chile) where a Fascist government has recently been usurped by a Democratic revolution. Paulina Escobar had been a political prisoner who was tortured by her captors during the oppressive period. Although blindfolded she believed to have gotten to know one of her captors all too well. A physician who gained her trust by playing tapes of Shubert's "Death and the Maiden" and then subjecting her to emotional, physical & sexual torture. She has since been set free and married Gerardo Escobar, the editor of an underground democratic newspaper during the previous regime. Gerardo is now running for political office. On his way home one night he has some car trouble and a good Samaritan named Dr. Miranda helps him get home. Later that same evening the doctor returns and from his voice Paulina believes him to be the same physician who had tortured her. The tortured becomes the torturer as this thrilling drama unfolds.
