There was a hermit at Sidley Park. And a genius. And a poet or two. And did someone fight a duel? Or not? In Arcadia, two stories overlap in the same room, almost 200 years apart. In what many regard as his finest play, Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, The Real Inspector Hound) bends time and space to bring abstract ideas of math, philosophy, and historical inquiry to vivid life, and irrevocably mixes comedy and tragedy. "You cannot stir things apart."
